Same boat as everyone else, bought in 2010 and now I own $2500 worth of useless furniture. Cushions and fabric could not even hold up with blanket covers which have been on them since day 1. My previous couch and loveseat lasted 18 years with lots of abuse and still looked better than these. Now that the new company supposedly bought them out just for the name I would not even consider the new companies product line. Paid top dollar for nothing, I will avoid Ashley as well and suggest others do the same until they step up and make all old customers happy!!

The reclining mechanism broke.

In 2006 I bought a set of Berkline theater seating type seats. They are extremely comfortable, and I have enjoyed them very much. They had a lifetime warranty, on the reclining mechanism, but in 2011, Berkline went bankrupt and ceased all operations. Recently a part of the reclining mechanism broke, so it lo longer operates smoothly, it's sort of clunky as it moves. I realize that means that the warrany is void, and I will have to pay for service, which is okay, but I can't find anyone. I have looked online for service and contacted several furniture dealers, who sell Berkline. I went to the Berkline website, which is now owned by Ashley Furniture Industries. So far no one that I have contacted is able to provide me with ANY information on who to contact for service. What I have heard repeatedly is 'look in the yellow pages'. Yet MANY companies are still selling Berkline products. I'm a big guy 300 pounds, so I understand the wear and tear on the furniture, BUT even though I can't fault Berkline for their quality, if service on their products is unavailable, I CANNOT recommend buying their products.

In 2008 I bought Berkline sofa recliner. Was very pleased with it until recently one of the recliner sides quit working.

It is halfway raised and stuck there. I went to the dealer & they gave me a nbr. for their service tech. Called him 3 times; had to leave a msg.

He will not call back. Now that I have visited the web site for Berkline I see the why no one wants to help. ***!

they are out of business. SOL.

There goes 3k out the window..

I purchased a set from Berkline in 2006. Upon arival they looked fine, about a year into owning them the back rests on the reclining sofa snapped off with regular use, no jumping kids, not a party couch, simply a sitting couch in the family room. I flipped the couch over to attempt to fix the issue to find the cheepest pine i have seen in a long time on something that cost more than a hockey stick. I attempted to re fasten the back to no avail. Berkline woudl do nothing about it nor would leons the company i purchased the set from. They were really good at passing the buck back and forth between each other while i sat back and awaited a reply. After that issue with the back the seating also began to sink into the couch, the metal clasps all let go on one side and the woods was just too cheap to be able to re anchor them. The arm rests.. are so cheap, one side of the couch began to open like a book would because the staples used in the arm rest were fastened into cardboard.. Cardboard.. thats a really strong anchor source. great job Berkline. The biggest issue with these couches is they were sold as american quality and priced at a price that would make one think they were made in the usa with quality parts, of course the saleman will talk them up and leave you with this mind set. But as soon as you are out your hard earned money. For some reason communication stops completely. I purchased these as a gift for my growing family, we wanted fresh new couches for our infant to be able to rest with us on, and in turn i bought some couches that now live in the garage because my son is 6 now and these couches have so many sharp hazards on them that they are not acceptable for a young child to sit on and watch sponge bob. Berkline USA. you failed. I hope you enjoy my money. I know i would have enjoyed having a product that actually stood the test of time, but mainly i would have loved to have this company help out after the purchase, 1 year life span is not acceptable for 3k worth of furniture.

My Berkline experience is identical to the stories I've read here.Purchased a chocolate brown microfiber sectional sofa in December 2006.....very early on the straps...not springs but straps in the corner unit detached from the very thin and cheap plywood construction. Had that fixed twice....badly.

then the bottom of the recliner back snapped....had that repaired. Then noticed the straps in the corner unit were sawing through the foam. The foam cushion is only about two inches thick over the plywood frame of each section. You couldn't sit on the thing unless it was in the centre of a cushion. After the warranty ran out,the arm broke....found cardboard fastened with thin staples. Finally the springs in the chaise lounger broke...twice! E-mailed Berkline....never got a response.

3000 dollar p.o.s. wasn't worth 500. It was with us for 7 years, and it's on the curb.

The previous sofa we had lasted us for 14 years and survived a lot of teenage wear and tear. Even if Berkline had not gone out of business I would never have bought from them again.

I also purchase my first Berline sofa with 2 end recliners, a few months into owning it, the arms rests started caving in, the cushions were so junky that you feel the wood on the frame protruding thru.. I called the store they wouldn't do anything, then I called Berkline direct, and I was by them that they would make the store come out and repair my expensive sofa....The Lady informed me that they were sending the items I needed to repair this sofa out the very next day....A week later, I called back, she said she forgot.

So informed me, she again would send out said items...I waited yet another week, called back, and was told, the company went out of business...

I will never, own a Berkline again. They're horrible.

Berkline LLC sold us Junk and walked away with $2,545.00!

The wife and I Purchased a sectional with recliners built in. At $2,500.00 dollars I thought it was a lot of money. When in doubt the wife gets her way and that's fine. What was not fine was the junk that showed up at my door step. I was sold a "fine piece of furniture that would be a part of lives for ever". "Craftsmanship was their top priority" I was told. Nothing could of even prepared me for what was to come. At first things fine. It was set up nicely and the installers got their nice tip. Fast forward two weeks. The first hit came when attempting to recline one the chairs the handle came off in my hand!. I then looked underneath and became furious! What I saw shocked me! It was nothing but press board a few wood screws (Many Missing!) and staples!. Nothing like was described to me in the showroom. After a couple of repairs I found the repair man actually broke the back of two of the chairs. The wood used is more brittle than what I would receive in a shipping pallet (Normally one way junk wood). I'm not even sure how I can repair this junk as my warranty is now up. There is nothing structurally sound to build off of! This couch reminds me of just how screwed I am every time a screw falls out of it! The last set of couches we had for 22 years. Had I know I would be ripped off this bad I would of had them reupholstered! I wonder how folks at Berkline LLC sleep at night??

Berkline is Substandard USA workmansship!!!

The furniture we purchased about 5 years ago for my wife and I, was hard earned money is nothing but fall apart junk, cardboard armrests, seat springs breaking, nuts & bolts falling off onto floor. The exterior of the furniture is in great condition but the insides are falling apart. the store we purchased it from was no support. We had a repair man to come out to fix some of the broken springs and dented cardboard, hence the extra warrenty we purchased, he said we must have been jumping on the funiture. We are in our late forties our only child was 16, past the point of jumping on furniture. Please stop the Madness. What ever happend to getting your hard earned money worth. Cracked leather

The leather on our sofa is cracking and peeling off. The sofa is going on five years old. We bought this sofa hoping that we didn't have to buy another one for years. What can I do to fix this? It looks really bad. I cover it with a blanket. The sofa is very comfortable to sit on. Is there something I can do to fix this problem? The color Of my sofa is dark brown. Please let me know what I can do to fix this so it does't look so bad. Hopefully It won't cost so much to fix.

Mrs

Berkline reclining sofa #40008 - just hit 5 years old - this sofa is in a back room and is not used on a daily basis. Within the first year there were some tears in the material and they sent a man to make repairs. Seam had a rip (I repaired myself). The one side of the sofa seat has been sinking in and today I moved the sofa to discover the metal clips that look like they hold something together lying on the floor with all sorts of clumps of stuffing. Now I see the company has filed bankruptcy and Raymour & Flanigans no longer carry this brand.

Berkline

Purchased a sofa and loveseat from Cardi's furniture in Swansea MA in May 2010. Also bought a warranty for fabric. Within a few months buttons started falling off and warranty company came to put them back on but gave me a very hard time. Even repair man told me to lie and say there was a tear in the fabric near the button to get them to agree to have him come out. This happened more than once. Then within the first year and a half the padding started to break down very badly. Cardi's was nice enough to take the sofa back to put in new foam in the cushions, back and arm rest. Have it back but it looks mis-shaped. Worst furniture purchase ever bar none!

Massage Chair

I purchased a Berkline massage chair in July 2011. Two weeks after I received it, it broke down. Called the manufacturer and a tech was sent out. Over the next 5 months and several visits the chair was finally fixed. It broke again before Christmas after 8 or nine uses. I called again but I am now into the parts only section of the warranty. I was told it is about $200 one time charge for the tech but a $195 charge for mileage on each trip. I was told to expect at least two or more trips. I hauled it to the dump. Worst purchase I ever

I bought a Berkline meridan power massage recliner from Sams club a few years ago for my dad, he actually used it maybe 4 times and has since passed away its just sat in his house ever since I went and got it only to find out the remote no longer works and I've been told there is no way to buy a replacement remote control ..... absolute worst product I've ever purchased , I'd say I'll never ever purchase another Berkline product as long as I live but seeing as there out of business I guess thats a given and from reading post on this site its no wonder they went out of business

Cardboard to support arm rests, really! Cardboard in furniture, really!

Thankfully I have good carpentry skills. I have had my sofa and chaise lounge 11 months and had to remove the CARDBOARD under the armrest on both pieces. They stapled cardboard to both sides and put padding on top of it! The first time I used it my elbow went through it. It creaks and cracks when moving. If you move it at all to clean carpet be prepared to tighten stripped bolts and put springs back in where they belong!!! I will never buy Berkline again! Our previous set my parents had 26 years, should've kept it, it may have lasted 25 more years!!!

Totally dissappointed in furniture and service

I purchased a sectional and have had problems right from the start. Whoever did the sewing, did not leave enough material on the seams. They were already fraying. Now the seams are coming apart. I have made appointments with the service company and twice they have cancelled. Also, I did not get the material I first ordered and had to take a material that I was afraid would pull apart. (Which it is doing.) I also purchased an extra 5 year warranty. So far, no satisfaction... I also have to give the fabric a haircut weekly, just to try to keep it somewhat decent looking. I was told that the fabric would be changed if I had any problems, and again no satisfaction. The stuffing is inadequate. It is just 2 years old and it looks like I have had it for over 25 years. I am not satisfied at all. How can I get any type of resolution?
